My two FAVOURITE things are Oprah and Etsy. It’s my guilty pleasure. I am sad that Oprah is over however thought I would still post some pictures from that episode.

Just when you thought you couldn’t afford that Vera Wang wedding dress. Guess again. Great news for the couple who don’t have the deep pockets to splurge on a couture gown. 11 new affordably priced dresses called White by Vera Wang. Ranging from $600-$1500 US. So affordable, you may need two. David’s Bridal does carry the new modest priced collection. It hit their stores earlier this spring.

Wow your guests with a Signature cocktail

10 Tips for attending Calgary wedding shows

It’s about that time of year when wedding shows are in full effect. Before you head to the next show, keep these tips in mind and you’ll be happy you went prepared.

10 Tips for attending wedding shows

1. Bring pre-printed self-adhesive address labels with your name, address and email on it. The labels will save you time when you’re filling out vendor mailing lists or entering draws and contests. Writing at each booth will give you hand craps so it’s best to be armed with your pre-made labels

2. Buy your tickets for the show in advance. You’ll save money and you won’t have to wait in line to purchase tickets at the door or worry about carrying cash.

3. Wear comfy shoes. You’ll be doing a lot of walking and the concrete floors at shows can really do a number on your feet. Leave the high heels at home.

4. Bring a friend/mom/sister/brother with you to share in the experience. A companion and someone to share in the fun, as well as keep you company is great. A wedding show is no place for kids and manuevouring a stroller is no easy task. So leave your little one at home if you are going to attend a show with a couple or if you have kids of your own.

5. Bring refreshments whether that is a canteen,bottled water or any non- alcoholic beverage so you are replenished while at the show. It’s also a great idea to bring a snack too.

6. Bring a bag with durable handles that can fit promotional material from vendors. Most shows give out bags to couples on entrance however they are not the best quality and usually plastic. So bring your favourite tote from home, it’s better for the environment anyway.

7. Bring a notepad and pen. Or if you are tech savvy person bring your blackberry,iphone or ipad to make some notes about potential vendors. The wedding shows can be overwhelming with vendors and you won’t remember every detail about each, so best to make notes on your electronic device or good old fashion paper.

8. Ask questions! Vendors are there to help you make your wedding planning easier and allot less stressful. Ask the vendor your questions and let the next bride/groom have their turn to do the same. Shows are busy and vendors try their best to accommodate everyone.

9. Visit the vendors you still need for your wedding - make this your priority. If you already have some vendors booked, great skip those booths and focus on what you still need for your big day.

10. Be prepared to spend money. You may want to book your services right there, especially if there’s a discount opportunity or a value add for booking on the spot. Most vendors after a show do get bombarded with inquiries, so it’s best to book at the show to avoid disappointment since after the show, your date may no longer be available. There is a reason why the early bird gets the worm.

I am a HUGE fan of dessert. This is no secret. When a couple asks me my thoughts on cake, I ask them to take me to the cake tasting. After all it’s my job as a wedding planner.
